The transformation of the automotive industry is increasingly shaping regional economies across Europe, bringing not only technological change but also important social questions.
On 23 March 2026, CELSI organised a roundtable in Ostrava focused on the social sustainability of the ongoing transformation in the Moravian-Silesian region.
The event featured a presentation by CELSI researcher Jakub Barszcz, who introduced key research findings on the transformation of the automotive sector in the region, including developments at EU, national and regional policy levels.

The discussion that followed focused on practical challenges related to employment, uncertainty in the labour market, and the role of regional actors – including public authorities, employers, and worker representatives – in shaping a fair transition.
The event was part of the EcoMobility Transition project, which explores how automotive regions in Central Europe can manage structural change in a socially sustainable way.
🙏 Thank you to all participants for their interest, contributions, and open discussion.
