The EcoMobility Transition research team has published a national policy report focusing on the Trnava Self-Governing Region (TTSK) – one of Slovakia’s most industrially intensive territories, whose economy is closely tied to automotive manufacturing and global value chains.
The region’s development model is strongly export-oriented, with Stellantis Slovakia as a key employer alongside a broad ecosystem of suppliers in electronics, battery technologies, and mechanical engineering. This industrial concentration creates economic strength, but also significant vulnerability to technological, environmental, and geopolitical shifts.
The report identifies several region-specific challenges:
- strong dependence on a single dominant industrial sector,
- extensive daily commuting flows putting pressure on mobility infrastructure,
- persistent skills shortages in electromobility and digitalised production,
- limited engagement of major employers and trade unions in strategic transition planning,
- weak coordination between regional governance, industrial actors, and national policy frameworks.
