Our EcoMobility Transition research team has published a new national policy report focusing on Czechia, with an in-depth look at the Moravian-Silesian region – one of the country’s most important automotive and industrial hubs.
The report shows that the region is actively engaged in the green and digital transition, supported by the Just Transition Fund and ambitious regional strategies such as SMARAGD. It aims at transforming a former heavy industry and mining region into a centre of innovation, clean production, and smart mobility.
At the same time, the findings point to key challenges:
• the region remains highly dependent on the automotive sector, limiting re-employment options outside well-paid industrial jobs,
• production is still dominated by internal combustion engine vehicles, with electric vehicle output growing slowly amid high energy costs and uncertain demand,
• stakeholders strongly support technological neutrality, reflecting concerns about competitiveness, employment stability, and the pace of policy-driven change.
